Cocoa Loco: Five Hot Chocolate Recipes We’re Crazy About!

Winter is in full swing, and as the temperature drops, so does our patience for the cold. There are many things around the house we look to for warmth during these months: blankets, sweaters, soup, candles, sweatpants, a good fireplace fire, and of course, hot cocoa. Few can resist the traditional delicacy that is hot cocoa on a freezing February evening, and those who do are missing out. In this blog, we give you everything you need to add some sweet chocolatey heat to your home this winter.

1) Make Your Own

We have nothing against store-bought mixes , but no package of powder compares to a thick, steamy cup of homemade hot chocolate. If you’ve never made hot chocolate before, you’ll be surprised at just how easy it is. Serve up some smiles with this quick recipe for homemade hot chocolate.

Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate

You’ll need:

  • Milk
  • Chocolate chips

  • Over the stove, melt and mix chopped chocolate (or chocolate chips) with half of your milk. We recommend using 3 ounces of chocolate for every two cups of milk. (feel free to use good-quality cocoa powder in the place of some or all of the chocolate)
  • On low heat, whisk in the rest of your milk, letting the mixture heat through.
  • Taste it. Bitter? Add some sugar. Too sweet? A splash of milk or water should cut the flavor.

With homemade hot chocolate that is this simple to make, the whole family can join in! The key is finding your favorite flavor of chocolate chips — we recommend semi-sweet.
